by stopping over-development and ensuring smart planning for the future. In 2020, our current council rewrote the zoning code to accommodate a developer’s wishes to build 41 townhouses (and waive community open space requirements) for a parcel in the heart of our downtown business district. Sadly, this development will eat up open space, add traffic, and further exacerbate the lack of a business/industrial tax base for the Perkiomen Valley School District. Discussions for other high-density projects are actively underway. We will work to maintain the character of our town while pursuing smarter growth and private capital investment in our business district.
by funding our police and emergency services, targeting aggressive drivers, and addressing traffic safety. We are proud of our police department, their interactions with our residents, their devotion to the safety of our citizens and their commitment to continuous training and improvement. We are also proud of our Fire Company, whose volunteers devote countless hours to training and service. Lastly, while our current council has at last recognized our resident’s concerns with speeding, their solution – the installation of speed “pillows” – punishes the 85% of residents who obey the law, diverts traffic to side streets, and is opposed by our first responders. The health and safety of our residents is our first concern; we will support and adequately fund our police department and volunteer fire company, direct our resources to target aggressive drivers, and more forcefully work with the PA DOT to implement traffic calming measures and improvements to our intersections.
through strong fiscal management that prevents constant tax increases. The current Council
has raised property taxes by 20% since taking control in 2017 without implementing any
new services to benefit our residents.
Money and time have been wasted on
“top-down” business development planning which has yielded no results. Resources have been squandered on the formation of unnecessary committees and commissions. Additionally, our Borough will receive over $500,000 in COVID-19 relief funds. We will critically evaluate the use of those funds to provide optimal benefit to our residents.
We are long-term residents of Collegeville who love this town, are seeking to volunteer our time to serve as council members, and pledge to approach decisions transparently, gain input from all members of our community and always put the interest of our residents and the
long-term vitality of our town first in all decisions. We will critically evaluate whether Sean Kilkenny is the right solicitor for our Borough. Additionally, members of our current Council have shockingly not recused themselves from votes on matters which they or their family members have financial interest (primarily employment or housing through Ursinus College). We will implement a strong Code of Ethics for our elected officials and avoid even the appearance of impropriety of all times.
We are all fortunate to live in a historic, diverse, and prosperous town, filled with numerous amenities as well as caring and generous citizens. While we believe the current Council has taken some steps in the wrong direction, we will respect all points of view, take all perspectives into consideration, and focus on the long-term success of Collegeville Borough, while striving to avoid the bitter political games of DC and Harrisburg.
